Acai Alive

Acai berry is the latest “super fruit” fad. It is not a magic weight loss product. It won’t cure any illnesses, either real or imaginary.
It is just a fruit. All fruits have vitamins, minerals and variable degrees of “anti-oxidant” properties. These qualities are best found in fresh fruits within days of being picked. Shipping and processing does reduce the nutrient content to a degree. Saying it “only works in 40% of people” is a nice marketing copout. You may as well flip a coin…at least your odds there are 50%.
For the record, while Alties’ continually rave on about antioxidants, I’ve yet to meet one who could explain to me what that is, or how that is beneficial. All benefits of anti-oxidants are entirely theoretical, as it has been shown in the lab to be a property of some foods, but what that may do at the macro level (ie you and me) has never been demonstrated.
The açaí berry – although very healthy, may have become the latest victim of too much hype, just like so many other fad diets and quick-fix diet aids.
Consuming large quantities of açaí in the hopes of lowering the number on your scale is a fantasy, conjured up by marketing geniuses who get paid well to prey on your weaknesses and foibles.
The studies done on the berry show it does have rather remarkable antioxidant properties.
Its ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) value, which is a scientific measurement of its antioxidant capacity, is impressive. Researchers have determined that the açaí contains about 300 percent more antioxidants than blueberries or grapes.
In fact, it is thought to have the highest antioxidant capacity of any known edible fruit.
With the price of açaí products being quite high, there are a few things you may want to consider before buying.
First, the number one factor in how a sample of açaí scores in ORAC is in the processing.
For example, a gram of raw açaí berry off the tree may have an ORAC value over 1,200, but by the time it arrives in your kitchen, that number may likely be under 100. So keep that in mind if you see different açaí products claiming to have higher ORAC values. You might want to do a little research to see whether their claims of a higher ORAC value are legitimate.
If the acai’s antioxidant power has been dramatically reduced during processing, there are many other foods that are high in antioxidants as well and may beat the açaí product in question, so why waste your money?
A number of companies also make pure Açaí juice. On the positive side, because it has a very low natural sugar content for a fruit, this can be a good choice for diabetics who normally need to severely restrict their juice intake.
However, many açaí products are not pure açaí juice, but rather a mixture of juices that also contain added flavorings and sweeteners. I’d advise against consuming these açaí “juice drinks,” as the sugar content and other additives will likely counteract many of the acai’s otherwise beneficial nutrients.
chances of that product being filled with additives and fillers is very high. If you are exercising and your not losing Weight I doubt you will lose any by taking this product. I have been drinking acai as often as possible for its nutrition ( last 2 years). Even if you consumed pure acai in juice or freeze dried form you will not lose all kinds of weight. It can be used along with a good diet that includes fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, and food that have not been processed and filled with additives.
well,so far, among the people i knew who consumed this, they have had mostly positive reviews that says they lost between 8-15 pounds so far.although the cleansing effect due to the antioxidant function of the acai berry may be a little too much for some others.
